Jazz Pins are manufactured using an ancient process called Cloisonné which dates back to the sixth century AD. In the Cloisonné technique metal wires are bent to form a design; then enamel is inlaid into the resulting “cloisons” or cells. The Byzantine Empire (6th century AD) was the setting for gold Cloisonné pieces of a religious nature. In the same time frame, the Japanese were producing scenes of nature. In China, Cloisonné has been used since the 13th century AD. The “spring” button fastener on the back of Jazz Pins are made to grasp the pin spine so it remains very secure, preventing pin loss. The back of the pin also has a short spike that keeps the pin straight on the garment, thus eliminating the problem of the pin turning. View Artists jazzpins
